Having Time

I have been on sabbatical for nearly a month now.

I’m sitting on my balcony enjoying a light morning breeze and feeling rested. I have touched the computer only a handful of times and when I did, it was to edit or finish unfinished songs I had started.

I went to Berlin (and no, I didn’t go to Berghain, nor Tresor). The city was a good reset for the first week of this lengthy vacation period. Being in cities inspires me. The people on the street, seeing how they move around, what they wear, what they eat and drink. Learning about the history, noticing the architecture and how good infrastructures are. My critical nature can’t help but compare my hometown and notice all the missed opportunities and improvements that could be made.

After I returned, I’ve been living an easy life.

So far, I have “failed” on the goal of working out more consistently. But that “failure” was compensated by far with the fact that I have been going to the beach quite regularly. Being barefoot in the sand has been the best thing lately. The cold Atlantic water has been my medicine. And to be honest, I don’t feel like hitting goals at the moment. I have to do that a lot at work. I feel like following my intuition. Doing whatever I feel like doing, whenever I feel like doing it. A luxury I can afford right now.

I have finished one song. And I like it. There are more, but I’m polishing, editing, re-recording them. I’m hoping to put together a cohesive group into an album or EP. Making music requires time. And patience, and silence, and an absence of obligations. It requires emotional and energetic availability. Which I have right now.

I am finally reading books. I recently finished A Society by Virginia Woolf and am currently reading The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haidt as well as The Anarchist Banker by Fernando Pessoa.

More to come soon, maybe. Or maybe not. It depends on my intuition.
